Writing Job 2
Good morning… There are so many things I could talk about in this chapter…. Satan… Job’s wife…. Job’s wise words:
“Shall we receive good from God and shall we not receive evil?”
Job 2: 10
But I think I want to talk about Job’s friends. The friends who traveled to see him after they heard all that had happened to him. Why did they come to see him? “to show him sympathy and comfort him” verse 11.
“And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkles dust on their heads and toward heaven. And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that he suffering was very great.”
Job 2:12
Wow… these men really were his friends. Could you imagine leaving your home and going to a friends house for 7 days, sitting with them , supporting them? Just being next to them. This is a quality I don’t have. I guess that is why these verses jump out at me. They went to support and comfort Job the best way they knew to do. We will see in the next chapters that some comfort is best left without words. Presence is often better than any words that can be said. These men spent 7 days and nights, just in presence. Sadly, I think a prayer or a note is good enough in a time of sorrow. I have often felt that we have lost something in the way of mourning for ourselves and others. I feel I am afraid to show emotions outwardly. The way those in the bible showed mourning seems over dramatic because I am so reserved. I wish I could feel more like David, like Job, like Paul, mostly like Jesus. As I pray for a more tender heart, I have to be able to accept a more tender heart. That is a hard thing for one who is so reserved.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!
