Writing Genesis 4

Good evening…

“Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.”

Genesis 4:8

And here we see the first loss. Normally, we see this verse and many say, “Here we see the first murder”. But I see the loss. The first parents who ever lived lost their son… Not only did they loose their son Abel, but they also lost their son Cain, who became a fugitive and a wanderer. One day when I read this verse it struck me. The first parents who lived, went through the loss of a child. A horrible suffering that so many of us go through. For me it is comforting to know that others who have gone through this loss continue on.

“And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Able, for Cain killed him.”

Genesis 4:25

We also see that King David continued on after the death of his child.

“Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.”

2 samuel 12:20

For some of us, it takes a little longer to get back on our feet. For some of us, we fall again and again at the pain. But it is comforting to know that we can get back up and continue. Life is different, but there can still be life and happiness. With God we can get through all things, including grief.

(Coincidently, as I finished writing this post, my computer flashed up a memory photo of our son, Cameron, and us celebrating his 18th birthday. I just thought I would share it below. In memory of our boy!!)

God is so Good!!

Try to read a few verses today!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day today!!

  1. What a special photo! By the way, I’m touched/amazed you’re copying The Old Testament!! I’m still at it. Slow but still working on it. When I’m writing (I’m in Revelation!) it’s so comforting!! I figure that’s why you still are also. Big hugs!! I really love your thoughts here!! 💕🙏🏻🥀

    1. Thank you! I am still at it. I can’t believe how much I have written. It definitely is comforting. I have noticed so many little things by taking the time to write it. Thanks for the encouragement!!
