Writing Genesis 37

“But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.”

genesis 37:4

What can hate turn into?

“They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer. Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.”

Genesis 37:18-20

This is a clear example of what hate and jealousy can cause in our hearts. I believe this is why Jesus makes it so clear in Matthew that we are not even to be angry with our brother.

“You have heard that it is said to those of old, ‘you shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”

matthew 5:21-22

So if I have jealousy, anger, hatred in my heart what should I do? Sell them into slavery? Wish harm on them? Wish they were dead?

Jesus says, I should love them, forgive them, pray for them, make peace. That sounds so much better than the other alternatives.
