Writing Colossians 2

Good morning. As I was writing this chapter today, I took note of verse 8:

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”

The Colossians were being steered away by false teachings just like we are today. It is hard to stay focused on what is really in the bible because of what we hear outside of the Bible. After all, how much time do we spend in the Bible and how much time do we spend talking to others, watching tv, watching videos, listening to music, etc. Actual Bible reading is only a fraction compared to what we spend our time on.

A friend that was teaching a lady’s class made out a time sheet for us to keep track of what we were spending our time on. This makes it visually clear how much time we spend on God’s word and how much on other things. It is no wonder we are taken ‘captive by philosophy and empty deceit’. Paul helps us to be aware and stay focused.

I need to keep reading and be aware of things that don’t match up with what God’s word teaches me.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!
