Writing Genesis 34
Good afternoon…
Be careful what you promise…
“Ask me for as great a bride-price and gift as you will, and I will give whatever you say to me. Only give me the young woman to be my wife.”
genesis 34:12
Oh if Shechem only knew the trouble he was getting himself into. What one will say for the lust/love of a woman or man. There are so many lessons in this chapter that I can learn from. For example, taking things that don’t belong to me, giving into temptations, agreeing to things before I know what they are, or letting my guard down. But all this was in the name of love. Poor Shechem suffered the consequences of one mistake after another. His father tried to fix the problem, but some of David’s sons just wouldn’t let it go. It is so hard to fix things after a chain reaction begins to take control.
But let us not forget another player in this chapter, Dinah.
“Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land.”
genesis 34:1
It doesn’t say she was guilty or innocent, but we see her curiosity to see the women of the land. Poor Dinah should have stayed home. I do wish we had more information about her. It is always hard when I don’t know ‘the rest of the story’.
Try to read a few verses today!!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!
