Writing Genesis 23
Good morning…
“And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba (that is , Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her. And Abraham rose up from before his dead and said to the Hittites, ” I am a sojourner and foreigner among you; give me property among you for a burying place, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”
genesis 232-4
I like to look at the Bible to find ways to get through my life on this earth. This verse is one of those verses that sticks out to me when dealing with mourning. 13 years ago and a day, we lost our son suddenly. Verses like this help me to continue. I notice that Abraham mourned and wept, but then he rose up. Another verse, my favorite verse, is 2 Samuel 12:20:
“Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him and he ate.”
2 samuel 12:20
When David was asked about his behavior he said:
“While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ Bur now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”
2 samuel 12:22-23
Mourning is one of the hardest things I have gone through on this earth. Loosing our son, then loosing my mother just months later. I have lost others along the way, but these two were the hardest for me. It is helpful to see that these Godly people, in the Bible, cried and mourned, but then they got up and continued in life with those who remained on this earth with them.
I am blessed to have those who where in my life and those who remain.
