Writing 1 Timothy 6

Good morning. I have to say that I loved this little book. It has so much advice that I can take with me. I need extra encouragement to stay focused, I also need specifics on what to do and not to do. This letter gives me both and more. It even tells me how wonderful God the Father and Jesus Christ are.

From today’s chapter I want to carry verses 6-8 with me:

“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”

In the last couple of months, I have been going through all of our stuff in this home the Lord has blessed us with. It has come very clear to me that we have too much. Even with letting over half of it go, we still have too much. In the next verse following it says,

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”

Does having so much cause a temptation? A snare? Harmful desires?

I can see where all this stuff never seems to be enough sometimes. I find myself buying another thing here and there. I can see where this stuff fills up my time. I can see where this stuff is distracting and takes my focus off things that are more important. I live in a place where more is good and there never seems to be too much. Advertising is every where. My home is big enough to fit more stuff and some stuff is cheap.

With all that said, I guess a few questions to myself are: Does this “home” I have surrounded myself with help me spiritually or hinder me spiritually? Or does it not effect it at all? Would I be content with just food and clothing?

God is so Good!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day today!!
