Writing Exodus 30

Good mid morning….

“Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this; half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as an offering to the Lord. Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord’s offering. The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the Lord’s offering to make atonement for your lives.”

exodus 30:13-15

I found this group of scriptures interesting for a couple of reasons. For one I see that today we continue to take a census of the people today. Many countries do them and they can vary a bit. In the US we do them every ten years.

Another thing I noticed us that along with the census, the people of Israel were asked to give an offering. This was an offering to make atonement (compensation for a wrong). This was a set amount for them all. It didn’t matter how rich you were or how poor, they all paid the same amount.

I am thankful for all of the little details we are given, to try to understand the things in the Old Testament. They had to have all of these little details to live by. We have our little details in the New Testament to life by. I just have to read it to figure out what they are for us today.

Try to read a few verses today!!

I hope you are having a wonderful day!!
