Writing 1 John 3
Good morning. Yesterday, I had brought up verse 2:24, “If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that he made to us– eternal life.” Well, in chapter 3, there is another verse that helps to clarify this a bit more.
Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit who he has given us.
1 John 3:24
I wonder what commandments he is talking about?
And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
1 John 3:23
There are other commandments throughout the new testament but Love is mentioned above them all. Loving the God the Father and loving each other. If we have love then we will have actions that follow, just as Christ did when He gave His life for us. We are to give our life for others, 1 john 3:16. I need to work harder on this. Thankfully, I can be a work in progress.
